MV16 head’s pride for her A-level students

Instead of gathering at the Burton Road centre to celebrate or commiserate with classmates, they will receive their final grades by email.

With exams being cancelled this year due to the coronavirus restrictions, results are being determined through predicted grades, mock exam results and other work completed during studies.

The college said today that teachers worked tirelessly to ensure government guidelines were adhered to when they implemented the new grading process following the cancellation of the summer exams.

Overall results have not been released but MV16 say ‘outstanding’ grades have been achieved by its Year 13 students.

Head of college Kirstie Johnson said she was ‘incredibly proud of all students’ and praised the way they responded to the unique challenges 
the education sector has faced.

She acknowledged how disconcerting it had been for students during college closure and lockdown at such a pivotal point of their lives.

Ms Johnson told the Melton Times: “I cannot emphasise enough how each student at Melton Vale has coped with the added pressure of not being able to sit their exams and go through the established and traditional exam results day.

“Our students are exceptional and have showed true tenacity and stoicism in coping with the last five months.”

The large majority of Melton Vale Sixth Form College students will now head off in the autumn to start their undergraduate studies at a range of prestigious universities, MV16 said.

And others have successfully achieved the grades to take up their places on competitive degree apprenticeship programmes.
