Headteacher Trevor Marsden said 240 pupils will be affected and apart from two classes coming into school as normal the rest of the school would be closed.

At the time of going to press the Melton Times wasn’t aware of any other local schools being forced to close or partially close due to the industrial action.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has voted to strike in an ongoing row over pay and conditions.

A statement on the Leicestershire NUT’s website said: “Our pay and conditions of service are under threat as a result of proposals in the Government’s education White Paper.

“Striking is about doing something collectively to put pressure on employers or the Government to listen and take notice.”

Tomorrow’s national strike could be one of a series this summer but the Department for Education has said the action is ‘unnecessary’ and ‘damaging’ to schools, pupils and parents.
