Staff have reiterated the need for students to act responsibly during the ongoing pandemic as the Burton Road college remains open for lectures and study.

It comes as many youngsters there are coming towards the end of A-level courses, with staff due to grade them based on course work in lieu of exams due to the latest coronavirus regulations.

A spokesman for Nova Education Trust, which manages MV16 along with 22 other schools in the area, told the Melton Times: “Melton Vale Sixth Form College (MV16) has recorded two positive cases of Covid-19 following regular lateral flow testing of its students.

“The students who have tested positive will be self-isolating at home in line with the government guidance, along with 20 other members of the year group who have been identified as ‘close contacts’ following discussions with Public Health England.

“MV16 is continuing with their strict hygiene routines and processes which have worked exceptionally well up to this point – these are only the third and fourth cases the college has had this year.”

He continued: “MV16 will also be reinforcing to its students the importance of acting responsibly both in and out of college.

“Having sought official guidance from the Department for Education via Public Health England, Melton Vale has been advised to remain open to all students and will continue to operate accordingly.”

The trust is confident the education of the affected students will not be adversely impacted during the time they have to now spend away from the college.

“All students self-isolating at home will be able to remotely follow their lessons via Microsoft Teams,” added the spokesman.

“Therefore, they will be able to access their learning and teachers via this platform and not make any compromises on their learning.”

The coronavirus infection rate for the Melton borough has dropped significantly in the last few weeks - there were just five reported cases in the district in the week to Sunday, according to government figures.
