Melton college ‘saddened’ by student’s sudden death

Brooksby Melton College say it is ‘saddened’ to hear of the death of one of its students.

Matthew Langton, who was 20, was one of the young footballers from Mansfield Town FC studying on a programme at the college.

Reacting to the young man’s sudden death, Andy Graham, section manager for sport at the college, said: “We are extremely saddened to hear the news of Matty’s passing.

“Matty was an excellent student and was enrolled on our Mansfield Town residential pathway.

“Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to Matty’s family and friends at this sad time.”

Mansfield Town FC said it was ‘deeply saddened’ by the devastating news, with a club spokesperson commenting: “Matthew was enrolled on our education scheme at Brooksby Melton College.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Matthew’s loved ones at this difficult time.”

Matthew had also played for Derby County’s academy team and the club’s first team players wore black arm bands in tribute to him for Saturday’s Championship match against Coventry City.

The academy team also observed a minute’s silence before their latest game.
