Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to celebrate garden opening

ROYAL Ascot had nothing on the hats at the opening of Knossington and Somerby Pre-School’s allotment.

The group landed a Big Lottery grant which paid for raised beds for growing fruit and veg, a garden shed, equipment, picnic tables, a mini greenhouse and more.

One of the beds will be used just for messing around in soil and a composting bin called Roly Pig will be used to teach composting

It was officially opened by Nigel Gates of Gates’ Nurseries at a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

Sue Bichard, leader of the pre-school said: “We have already had so much fun in the garden and planted up two of the beds with runner beans, courgettes and peas. It’s a fantastic learning opportunity for us.”

The garden has been dedicated to the memory of 14-year-old Dominic Archer-Fern who died earlier this year.
