Young farmers prepare for 75-mile cycling fundraiser to remember Jack

Young farmers will set off on a gruelling 75-mile group cycle from Melton Mowbray on Thursday in their latest fundraiser in memory of Jack Woodward.

Jack was aged only 22 when he was tragically killed following a road incident on Nottingham Lane, at Six Hills, last July – an air ambulance crew was unable to save his life when they were deployed to the scene.

Friends in Leicestershire young farmers’ groups organised a spectacular convoy of more than 100 tractors on rural roads around Melton last month, raising more than £9,000 for the air ambulance.

And on Thursday they will be taking to the saddle to cycle from the Market Tavern at Melton Livestock Market, finishing the following day at The Boat House in Skegness after an overnight stay.

Jack grew up in Lutterworth before moving to the Melton area and he was a popular member of the Lutterworth Young Farmers’ Club.

The Lutterworth YFC commented: “Jack sadly passed away last summer, he was a well loved member of Lutterworth YFC and is greatly missed by all who knew him.

“We’ve decided to cycle to one of his favourite places, where we all have memories of him propping up the bar and grooving about to his favourite dance tunes on the Skeggy dance floor.”

Proceeds from the sponsored cycle will go to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance in recognition of their efforts in coming to his aid following the accident – go to www.justgiving.com/team/yfccycletoskegness to sponsor Jack’s friends.
