Village waste site to reopen after being temporarily closed
Leicestershire County Council has confirmed Bottesford household waste and recycling centre will reopen tomorrow (Thursday) and will operate on reduced days after initially closing down on August 12.
Officials said the Bottesford site will open on Thursday and Friday, and remain temporarily closed on Saturday (August 29), with council bosses confirming that treatment facilities are not yet ‘back to capacity’.

Bottesford was one of four sites alongside Lutterworth, Oadby and Shepshed that were indefinitely closed by the council while officials looked to address increased demand and fires affecting recycling plants across the country.
Calls have since been made to reopen the Shepshed tip by Loughborough Labour MP Dr Jeevun Sandher, who said that residents’ patience was ‘running thin’ and called for the tip to be reopened.
However, in a statement, the Reform UK group at Leicestershire County Council said there was speculation that the tip was closing permanently and claimed that Dr Sandher was ‘scaremongering’.
The group also said Bottesford was reopening because ‘residents face a much longer journey to an alternative site’ while ‘Shepshed has Loughborough and Mountsorrel nearby’.
