Round table organises volunteer army in major litter pick across Melton

Volunteers of all ages joined forces to pick up litter in Melton Mowbray in a bid to make the town a more attractive place to live and visit.

The effort was organised by Melton Mowbray Round Table with dozens of volunteers taking to the streets, the parks and surrounding areas, collecting significant amounts of rubbish and making a visible difference to the local environment.

In just two hours, volunteers collected an impressive 27 bags of litter.

This was not just a local effort. It formed part of a nationwide collaboration involving Round Table, Ladies Circle, 41 Club, and Tangent, with around 100 clubs and over 1,000 people taking part across the country.

The Round Table were also pleased to be joined by members of the Melton Mowbray 41 Club, whose support on the day helped make the event an even greater success.

A key factor in the success of the litter pick was the incredible support from local waste management business PH Hull & Sons, who generously donated 1,000 litter pickers and high-visibility vests for volunteers.

This ensured that everyone who wanted to take part could do so safely and effectively, encouraging a larger turnout.

Further support came from Crowfoots Carriers and Darby Express Couriers, who generously delivered all of the equipment free of charge.

Their contribution ensured the donated materials reached the community efficiently, playing a vital role in the smooth running of the event.

A spokesperson for Melton Mowbray Round Table said: “We are incredibly grateful to PH Hull & Sons, Crowfoots Carriers, and Darby Express Couriers for their generous support.

"Their contributions allowed us to equip a large number of volunteers and make a real impact.

"It’s fantastic to see local businesses working alongside community groups to improve our town.”

Melton Mowbray Round Table is not only focused on community activities such as litter picking – the group is a social club for men aged 18 to 45, meeting twice a month for a wide range of events.

From social nights to unique experiences, members pride themselves on creating a welcoming environment where there is never a dull moment.

The group’s next major fundraiser is its annual Skinflint Rally, where this year members will be taking on a ‘Toy Story on Tour’ theme, raising money for the Harley Jae Trust.
