Melton Mowbray Round Table has once again demonstrated its commitment to the local community with a highly successful litter picking initiative, bringing together volunteers of all ages to help keep the town clean and welcoming.

The recent event saw dozens of volunteers take to the streets, parks, and surrounding areas, collecting significant amounts of litter and making a visible difference to the local environment. In just two hours, volunteers collected an impressive 27 bags of litter. The effort not only helped improve the appearance of Melton Mowbray but also raised awareness about the importance of responsible waste disposal and community pride, while highlighting the various voluntary groups who tirelessly clean our town and streets.

This was not just a local effort. It formed part of a nationwide collaboration involving Round Table, Ladies Circle, 41 Club, and Tangent, with around 100 clubs and over 1,000 people taking part across the country. The coordinated work highlights the strength of these organisations working together to make a positive environmental impact on a national scale.

We were also pleased to be joined by members of the Melton Mowbray 41 Club, whose support on the day helped make the event an even greater success.

A key factor in the success of the litter pick was the incredible support from local business P.H. Hull & Sons, who generously donated 1,000 litter pickers and high-visibility vests for volunteers. This ensured that everyone who wanted to take part could do so safely and effectively, encouraging a larger turnout.

Further support came from Crowfoots Carriers and Darby Express Couriers, who generously delivered all of the equipment free of charge. Their contribution ensured the donated materials reached the community efficiently, playing a vital role in the smooth running of the event.

P.H. Hull & Sons has established itself as a leader in Total Waste Management Solutions, and their involvement highlights their ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.

A spokesperson for Melton Mowbray Round Table said: “We are incredibly grateful to P.H. Hull & Sons, Crowfoots Carriers, and Darby Express Couriers for their generous support. Their contributions allowed us to equip a large number of volunteers and make a real impact. It’s fantastic to see local businesses working alongside community groups to improve our town.”

Melton Mowbray Round Table is not only focused on community activities such as litter picking. The group is a social club for men aged 18 to 45, meeting twice a month for a wide range of events. From social nights to unique experiences, members pride themselves on creating a welcoming environment where there is never a dull moment.

Following the success of this litter pick, Melton Mowbray Round Table is already looking ahead to future events and encouraging more people to get involved.

The group’s next major fundraiser is its annual Skinflint Rally, where this year members will be taking on a “Toy Story on Tour” theme, raising money for the amazing Harley Jae Trust.
