Security Scanners at Stansted Airport to strike on Bank Holiday Monday

Workers who operate the security scanners for luggage at Stansted Airport are to stage a strike on Bank Holiday Monday in a row over pay.

Members of the GMB union will take industrial action from 3.45am to 11.59pm.

The workers, who are employed by private contractor Mitie, voted by 87 per cent, in a turnout of 80 per cent, to strike in support of their claim for a three per cent pay rise.

Around 30 workers are involved in the dispute.

They have rejected a 1.5 per cent offer from the company, whose chief executive Ruby McGregor-Smith was included in the list of new peers nominated by the Conservatives this week.
