The confirmation from the company, which has an outlet on Scalford Road, follows news that the town’s Wilko shop, on Nottingham Street, is also remaining open.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has ordered all stores deemed ‘non-essential’ to close from today through to December 2 as part of a campaign to tackle a major rise in Covid cases aross the UK.

Both QD and Wilko are classed as ‘essential’ retailers because of the range of goods they sell.

Karl Ottolangui, operations director for QD, said this morning: “We want our customers to know that we are here for them.

“We are fully stocked with all the essentials including food and groceries, as well as everything else they might need, whether it’s DIY supplies, homewares or Christmas goods.

“We take the risk of Coronavirus extremely seriously and our number one priority remains the wellbeing of our staff and customers at all times.

“With this in mind, we’ve made some changes to our usual shopping experience for safety reasons and all cafes will remain closed until further notice. “Customers preferring to stay at home can shop with us online too at QualityDiscounts.com.

“We would like to say a very special thank you to our staff for their continued hard work to provide customers with vital everyday items during this challenging time. We are determined to keep smiling - under our masks, of course - and serving our customers safely.”
