The King Street venue has been closed since March as part of the coronavirus restrictions but Prime Minister Boris Johnson has now given the go-ahead for cinemas to open for business from July 4 if they are deemed ‘Covid-safe’.

The owners of The Regal have posted a message on their Facebook page which says: “We are very excited to hear that cinemas will be able to reopen from July 4, though we may be a little bit later.

“We are currently in the process of programming films, plotting out our brochure and making final preparations to our improved booking system.

“We will announce our own reopening date shortly.

“Rest assured that we will be back very soon and better than ever.

“For now, enjoy this extended intermission, eat lots of ice cream and get ready to take your seat again soon.

“We look forward to seeing you all in the near future!”

Customers are also being asked to buy a ticket at The Regal for someone who works in the NHS as a way of thanking them for their dedicated work during the ongoing pandemic.

The Regal state on their website: “We are working to make sure the cinema is safe and ready to open as soon as we are able and we want to help everyone recognise the incredible work NHS staff are doing to keep us safe.

“We would love you to buy a ticket that we will hold and give to NHS staff so they can enjoy a night at the cinema free of charge.

“This will help to support the cinema through this difficult time and will give a well deserved escape to the dedicated people of the NHS.

“The tickets will be given on a first come, first served basis, to anyone with current photographic NHS ID, for any film and for whichever category of seating the voucher has been purchased for.

“NHS staff can also book in advance for this scheme through telephone booking.”
