The holiday firm took over the Market Place premises in January following the demise of Thomas Cook, which previously occupied the unit.

Hays Travel, which acquired Thomas Cook shops across the country, recently announced it was having to restructure due to the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on the travel industry.

The closure of the shop follows closely after the loss of other major retailers in the town - Poundland in Sherrard Street and Clinton Cards on Nottingham Street.

A spokesman at the Melton Hays Travel store told the Melton Times: “We will be closing the shop for good on Saturday and our three staff will be redeployed to other stores in the business.

“Existing customer bookings here will be handled by our branch at Syston after Saturday.

“There has been a general restructure of the business and this was one of the shops where the lease was up for renewal.”
