The tighter restrictions, aiming to address increasing cases of Covid across the nation, will also see the town Regal Cinema and leisure facilities close down until the measures are anticipated to end on December 2.

Schools and playgroups will remain open for this period, though, according to the instructions issued by Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the weekend.

Supermarkets and other ‘essential stores’ will remain open, of course, and hospitality businesses will be allowed to operate takeaway services as before.

Melton Borough Council Tweeted after the announcement: “Following Saturday’s Government announcement, we want to reassure residents that we will continue to work alongside our partners to support you through this.

“There is help and information available though our Community and Business Support Hubs on our website.”

These can be accessed at www.melton.gov.uk/here4Melton and www.melton.gov.uk/here4melton/business for further details.

Film fans will be disappointed to see that the town’s cinema is having to close again so soon after reopening again only in September with stringent social distancing measures in place.

The Regal Cinema has Tweeted: “Due to government guidance we will have to close again from this Wednesday after our last film.

“We’re now looking at our programming for December to make sure we can bring back as many films as possible whilst also fitting in lots of new content and Christmas classics!

“If you were booked in for a film with us we will hold your tickets (unless you request a refund), then we will be in touch to try and get you rebooked in when we have confirmed our showtimes.

“Thank you for your patience and your support.”

Melton Mowbray Town Estate say its golf and footgolf facility and caravan and camping site, which are all off Asfordby Road, will be closed from Thursday.

It is expected that Waterfield Leisure Centre and Melton Sports Village will also be closing on Thursday in line with new government restrictions although no official announcement has yet been made.

Everyone Active, which manages the facilities for the council, said: “We’re currently digesting all the information from the Government update.

“We are awaiting further clarity on the guidance.

“We will be in touch with all members and customers in the coming days.”

It is unclear at the moment whether the household waster and recycling sites in the Melton borough will remain open during November.

More to follow.
