Coronavirus: Cricket stars close ‘village shop and takeaway’ at their pub

England cricket star Stuart Broad has reluctantly had to stop using his Upper Broughton pub as a village shop and a venue for producing takeaway food.

The Tap and Run, which Stuart owns with his Nottinghamshire CCC team-mate Harry Gurney, was temporarily closed to drinkers and diners along with every other UK pub following a recent order from Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

But the cricketers came to the aid of villagers by selling fruit and veg, freshly-baked pies, bread, pastries, quiches, meats, wines and beers from the premises between 10am and 3pm. Customers could also order takeaway food from the pub menu at night.

But the shop is open for the final time today and takeaways can only be ordered this evening, from 5pm to 9pm, but not after today, until further notice.

A message posted by the pub owners on their social media channels reads: “We are sad to announce that due to various circumstances beyond our control, we have been left with no choice but to completely close the Tap and Run at the end of the month for the foreseeable future.

“We would like to thank you all for your support over a challenging few weeks and we cannot wait to welcome you back to the Tap and Run in due course. “Stay safe.”
