Talented youngsters have flair for the stage

A CELEBRATION of Grantham’s talented youngsters is set to be a night to remember.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Grantham, the Young Entertainer grand final will take place in the Guildhall theatre in Grantham on Friday, March 16.

The line-up features a selection of youngsters who worked hard and auditioned for a place in the grand final, all vying for the title ‘Young Entertainer of the Year’.

Rotarian Barry Phillips is an organiser. He said: “I think it’s great to see the youngsters display their talents in a world where there is so much bad news.

“They are enthusiastic and are all a breath of fresh air, and I hope the people of Grantham will come and support them because they deserve it.”

Young people aged between seven and 21 were invited to take part, showcasing their talents in singing, dancing, music or comedy. Judges whittled the entries down to the mix of finalists who will show off their star quality on the Guildhall stage.

Among the finalists is solo singer Jessica Bacon, 15, a pupil of West Grantham Academy St Hugh’s.

She said: “This is the first time I’ve done anything like this. I’m a bit nervous but excited. I’m looking forward to it.

“I can’t wait to get on stage now. It’s going to be amazing.”

Tegan Alexander, 13, is in a four-strong group called Lucky Charms.

She said: “I’m excited and looking forward to it. We’ve been practising really hard every day.”

Singing duo Alan Jones, 13, and Leia Dykes, 12, are also looking forward to taking to the stage and hope to impress the judges.

Alan said: “I’m quite nervous but excited at the same time because I’ve never done anything like this before.

“It’s nice that the Rotary club puts this kind of thing on for youngsters.”

As well as the competitors, there will be special appearances from singer Timothy Poole, who won last year, and the Grantham School of Dance.

The Young Entertainer grand final will begin at 7pm.

Tickets are £5 (£3), available at the Guildhall box office on 01476 406158.
