SUN SET TO SHINE ON STRUMMER SUNDAY

FANS of acoustic music are in for a treat this weekend as anumber of familiar names take to the stage, writes Tara Rippin.

On Sunday Brooksby Hall is to host Strummer Sunday in the

stunning grounds of the college.

Lovers of the musical genre will recognise the likes of Chris Conway and Dan Britton who will headline a 10-act line-up which also boasts Mark and Chris, Toy Heroes, Melton duo Smallbear, Leicester-based singer-songwriter Andy Griffiths, Andy Whittle, Gren Bartley and Joel Evans.

Event spokesman Neil Rabjohn said: "It promises to be an

afternoon with a real festival

feel and a top line-up of artists including acts from Midlands-based record companies Musician, Oblong and Folkwit.

"Acoustic music is very popular right now and Brooksby Hall is the perfect setting for an event of this kind.

"The grounds are beautiful and all the facilities are on site. There'll be stalls and extra entertainment for children, too, to make it a real family day out."

The event runs from noon until 8pm and entry costs 5 with children under 12 free.

There will be a fully licensed bar and food available with plenty of parking available on site.

Three of the acts performed an informal warm-up gig in the foyer of Melton Theatre on Sunday evening.

The theatre recently staged a stand-out gig by Mercury Prize nominee and new folk hero Seth Lakeman, whose music is helping the renaissance in acoustic/ roots music.

Fans can also check out the bi-monthly gigs held at Kirby Bellars Village Hall when The Kirby Twins Acoustic Club takes up residence.
