Melton and District Model Club joins fight to beat rare condition

This year’s event at Tesco Playing Fields in Thorpe Road is set to include fun for all the family with a car display, fun dog show, licensed bar and night flying scheduled.

There will also be a World War One special feature plus radio-controlled planes, boats, helicopters, drones, slot cars, trains and more.

MDMC Vice Chairman Simon Askew said: “The Model Club aim to support local charities, especially those which are close to our members hearts. Each year the committee vote on the nominated charities and I am very happy that Beat SCAD have been selected for 2016.”

When Beat SCAD Chair Rebecca Breslin suffered her SCAD in March 2012 she was home alone while her husband was working away. Rebecca called her sister, who also happened to be away, who asked her partner Simon to call by to check on Rebecca. When Simon arrived, he immediately called for an ambulance.

Simon said: “I will never forget how pale and ghostly Becks looked when I arrived that morning. I knew she was in trouble and needed help fast. It was such a shock to the whole family when we were told she’d had a heart attack. She was the last person you’d expect to have a heart attack!”

Beat SCAD wil have an exhibition stand at the model show full of information to share plus games to enjoy and prizes to win.

Rebecca said: “Support from family members and friends of SCAD patients is absolutely essential to a small charity like Beat SCAD, so I’m over the moon that Simon nominated us and the MDMC committee selected us for this wonderful opportunity.

“The model show is always a fantastic event with lots of entertainment for all the family so I hope the SCAD community come along to enjoy the delights in store.”
