A Hologram For The King (12A)

Alan Clay (Hanks) is a washed-up American IT salesman whose potential salvation rests in the Saudi Arabian desert. The story sees Clay way out of his depth, both culturally and commercially. But he is chaperoned by a wily taxi driver (newcomer Alexander Black), while the doctor (Choudhury, Homeland) who helps Clay to recover from a panic attack also offers romantic hope for our unhappily divorced anti-hero. Hanks is reunited with garlanded Cloud Atlas director Tykwer – who also wrote the witty yet thoughtful screenplay – and Ben Whishaw (The Danish Girl) and Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen) also star in key roles. Bad Neighbours 2 (15)

Returning stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne are joined by Chloë Grace Moretz for Bad Neighbours 2. Just as Mac (Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Byrne) thought they had reclaimed the neighbourhood, they learn that the new occupants next door are a sorority even more out of control than Teddy (Efron) and his fraternity ever were. The ladies of Kappa Nu have decided to start a house where they can do whatever they want. Shelby (Moretz) and her sorority won’t let the fact that the house is located on a quiet street stand in the way of their epic parties. Mac and Kelly are forced to turn to ex-neighbour Teddy for help. But if they think that their new neighbours are going down without a fight, they have severely underestimated the power of youthful ingenuity. Friday at 8.30pm and Saturday at 6pm.

Boasting tens of millions of downloads, one of Finland’s greatest exports is the comical video game Angry Birds. We’ll find out exactly why they’re so angry as we visit the island paradise where they’re all living a happy life. All of them, that is, except a trio of outsiders: Red (Sudeikis, Horrible Bosses) with his bad temper, the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) and speed freak Chuck (Gad). When the island is invaded by little green piggies led by the cunning Leonard (Bill Hader), our unlikely heroes determine to discover the pigs’ motives and take action. Saturday at 1.30pm and 3.45pm.

Sing Street (12A)

Director John Carney (Once, Begin Again) takes us to ’80s Dublin. Conor (Walsh-Peelo) decides to win the heart of the mysterious and cool Raphina (Lucy Boynton), inviting her to star in his band’s music video. The only trouble is he doesn’t actually have a band. Cue the hasty invention of ‘Cosmo’ and his group. This warmly humorous and heartfelt drama is a musical treat.
