Syston QT Theatre Group to perform scathing comedy

The play written by Sheffield playwright Janice Sampson will be performed at The Old Chapel situated on Chapel Street from Tuesday, May 10 to Saturday 14.

The performances will start at 7.30pm each evening, and there will be refreshments served during the intervals and a raffle.

Director and chairperson of the group, Judith Latham, said: “The group was originally formed in 1953 as part of a youth club at Birstall Methodist Church. It was agreed that, if any profit was made from the productions, it would always be given to charity and over the years many thousands of pounds have been donated to various charities, mostly these days to SARIC.

“As the group grew, larger stages were needed for the more involved productions so, in 1972, the QTs moved to Wreake Valley College Theatre where two plays were performed each year.

“In 1990, in conjunction with Syston and District Operatic Society, the group took over the lease of the Old Methodist Chapel in Chapel Street, Syston, firstly using it for rehearsals and occasional social evenings, but now using it as the permanent venue for all our plays.”

The play is described as a scathing, hilarious play. Four seemingly unconnected tales of life, love, death and dodgy knees converge in a Sheffield doctors’ surgery one fateful afternoon. Bill is left waiting for Dr Carruthers whilst his past comes back to haunt him and his chickens well and truly come home to roost.

The production features the use of some strong language and so for this reason it is suggested that audience members are over the age of 12.
