The Venture Force Foundation carries out projects that provide clean, safe drinking water, improve education, provide employment opportunities and improve health care for people living within small rural communities in developing countries.

For the last three years, the foundation has focused its fundraising efforts on the construction of new accommodation for the Eugemot Orphanage, in the Upper Volta region of Ghana.

One of the charity’s trustees has generously donated a 40 ft shipping container to go to Ghana which leaves Melton on Monday, August 22.

The charity has therefore launched an urgent appeal to make sure every inch of the container can be put to good use.

Tom Tuckwood, who founded the charity in 2010 with friend Marcus Twidale, said: “After much hard work in Ghana, the new buildings are almost complete but now need kitting out for the residents, who range in age from new born babies to young adults.

“Donated equipment we require includes, plumbing materials, electrical items, wooden bunk beds, tables, desks, chairs, paint, playground equipment, garden tools, televisions, musical instruments and bicycles.

“We’re also looking for a 75HP tractor as one of our aims is to help the orphanage community become self-sustaining, by creating a small farm, on the wonderfully fertile land that surrounds the building.”

To donate items second hand or new visit the Grange Garden Centre at Asfordby Hill, where the container is being stored. Dates suitable include this Saturday, (9am-5pm) and Saturday, August 13, (9am-5pm).

If it isn’t possible to drop off donations when members of the Venture Force Foundation team will be on site (dates mentioned above), locate one of the members of staff at the garden centre, who will take your items and place them in the container.
