Melton Olympic Cycling Club organised an evening at Derby Velodrome on Saturday for accomplished boards riders and complete novices.

A group of 19 club riders as well as members of Stilton Striders running club took part in a two-hour session of tuition from British Cycling accredited coaches and by the end everyone was able to ride the 42-degree banking with ease and without touch downs or bruised egos.

The club would like to thank Theresa Coltman for the great organisation.

* On Sunday, Melton Olympic CC held its spring Hard Riders event.

It formed a lung-busting 60-mile workout on the Belvoir escarpment hills on a route plotted by Jim Sutherland.

The route took in, among others, the notorious ascents of Harby Hill, Terrace Hill and Branston Hill before heading off on a loop out towards Grantham and then back to do it all over again.

A total of 30 riders, some who had ridden at the track the previous evening, completed the course with no abandonments.
