Hamilton Tennis: Veterans final draws club championships to a close

The semi-finals were closely contested with Lesley Greaves and Cindy Coulter beating Margaret Heggs and Margaret Shufflebotham 5-3, while Sue Corfield and Rosie Gildove shading Sue Harrison and Jill Woods 5-4 on a tie-break.

Sue and Rosie hit top form in the final to beat Lesley and Cindy 6-1, 6-1.

* On the Winter League scene, the Hamilton ladies’ first team recorded their first win of the season when they beat Carisbrooke A by six sets to two with both pairs winning three sets.

* The ladies’ third team won 6-2 against Loughborough Greenfields Firsts as Saskia Davies made her senior debut.

Eileen Merrison and Jill Woods led the team with a maximum four-set haul.

* The other teams did not fare so well as the ladies’ fourth team lost 6-2 to a strong Hinckley third team with both pairs winning one set.

* The ladies’ second team were whitewashed 8-0 by Roundhill Firsts despite two close sets from Rosie Gildove and Margaret Heggs.

* Hamilton’s men’s second team also failed to pick up a set in an 8-0 loss to Leicester Police.

* The men’s fourth team also went down 8-0 to Gynsill Thirds with Graham Hall and Selwyn Carter unable to stave off the whitewash when they lost a tie-break.
