Stoke Rochford Golf: Nixon makes fine start to Summer Trophy

The first round of Stoke Rochford GC's seniors Summer Trophy took place last Wednesday with the aggregate of three best stableford scores over six rounds to count.

Last year’s seniors captain Mike Nixon won with a solid score of 39 points with Brian Keightley second on 38, and third-placed Eddie Plant one further back. A total of 45 players took part.

* Stoke Rochford gained an impressive away draw on a flat South Kyme course against strong opposition.

The performance of the day was from Alan and Janet Jessop who came back from 4-down to halve with Janet chipping in from off the green on the 18th!.

Scores: Don and Dorne Werner lost 5 and 4; Alan and Janet Jessop halved; Bob and Avis Griffin halved; Brian White and Jane Selby won 2-up; Philip and Norma Varley lost 4 and 3; David and Carol Hamilton won 3 and 1.

* Stoke Rochford ladies competed in their relevant handicap trophy last Saturday.

The Silver Rose division, for 0-20 handicaps, was won by Chris Rowley with a nett 75, while the Marlow Midway (21-28) went to Karen Rawson with nett 76.

The Leverett Cup for 29-36 handicappers was won by lady captain Roseanne McKee.

* The Chandler Bowl, a fourball betterball competition, was won by Avis Griffin and Judy Rawson with 41 points, four clear of runners-up Sue Booth and Carol Hamilton.

* The ladies’ first friendly away match of the season took them to Sleaford last Thursday where they gained a very good half.

Results: Avis Griffin/Roseanne McKee lost; Sheila Dugmore/Mags McArthur won; Roni Proctor/Sue Bellingall lost; Elaine Kirby/Janet Jessop won.
