Melton Town may have had their promotion dream ripped away from their grasp, but manager Tom Manship says that has only created a new togetherness in the camp.

The FA’s decision to expunge all results from steps three to seven in the National League System ended Town’s hopes of moving up to the United Counties League Premier Division next term... but it has created a greater determination.

“It’s made a massive difference. The togetherness is even bigger now,” Manship told the Times.

“I didn’t think it could be, but it’s like a whole family who want to do this and has made the decision together.”

Last week Manship told the Times that the heartbreak of the season halting with the club needing just 15 points from 12 UCL Division One games to secure promotion only made everyone involved more determined when the game returns.

And he is now setting his sights on getting over the line with his current squad.

“I want the core of players to be exactly the same next year,” he said..

“We all want to achieve the same thing and we’ve all been through last season together and know what that feels like.

“Next year we are all determined to be better than last year. Like we were determined to be better than the season before that.

“We’ll be ready when it’s safe and right to go again.”
