Asfordby Amateurs Girls' set new club record

Asfordby Amateurs Under 12s broke a new club record as they extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with victory at Loughborough Foxes.

The league leaders were quickly in the lead courtesy of a spectacular 20-yard left footed shot from Evie McDaid which found the top corner of the Loughborough net.

Asfordby’s passing was slick with Metcalf, McDaid and Attewell dictating the play and Sophie Townsend looking good up front.

Amateurs’ top scorer Hope Metcalf burst free to blast home from close range and make it 2-0 to the visitors.

It was 3-0 inside 20 minutes when Ruby Attewell burst down the right wing, beating two opponents, before her precise cross into the box found Townsend to volley home.

With five minutes left of the first half the impressive Metcalf looped a shot from 15 yards into the top of the away goal to give Asfordby a 4-0 half-time lead.

Ruby S, Millie G, Sophie V, Alice Henley-O’Sullivan, Erin Baker and Lauren Farrow came on for the second half as Amateurs hit cruise control.

In the space of 10 minutes, McDaid hit another two goals to complete her hat-trick as Asfordby made it 6-0.

A lapse in concentration saw Loughborough score a consolation before Henley-O’Sullivan wrapped up the scoring and an excellent team display with a great shot from the edge of the box.

Erin Baker went close several times and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, and captain Ella Wright was player-of-the-match for a powerhouse performance.

Amateurs: Leah S, Ella W (c), Lauren F, Clara HS, Hope M, Evie M, Ruby A, Ruby S, Sophie V, Sophie T, Millie G, Erin B, Alice HOS.
