Asfordby Amateurs Girls pipped by Leicester in friendly

In the absence of a league game, Asfordby Amateurs Girls welcomed Leicester Ladies Fosse to their ground for a home friendly.

Asfordby gave starts to Lilly Rogers and Charlotte, who both gave good performances in defence, and both teams started well despite the torrential rain.

Amateurs’ captain Lauryn Aldridge, who seems to be progressing week by week, put in a solid display in midfield and defence.

The hosts took the lead early on through player-of-the-match Ruby Attewell whose devastating pace caused Leicester problems throughout.

Leicester soon levelled, but Asfordby regained their composure as Alice, Erin, Hope, and Sophie T all went close before Evie McDaid rifled home a shot from outside the box to restore the lead.

Asfordby brought on Sophie V, Millie, Clara and looked good as a team, but Fosse equalised in the second half.

The home side continued to make numerous changes to give all of the girls an opportunity to play first team football, and only lost to a late effort from Leicester.

Despite the narrow defeat, the U12s management team of Mark and Rich were impressed with the squad as a whole and saw many positives to take forward for the season.
