Old Dalby were all set to host Hucknall when the heavens opened half-an-hour before the start and the prospect of a match looked bleak.

Both teams were keen to play, especially Dalby after two successive washouts, and waited for the weather to clear up.

The tea break was brought forward to a late lunch, and when the rain finally stopped, all 11 Dalby players got to work forking the square to try and remove the water.

The strategy worked and both teams agreed to 20 overs each to get a game played and beat the next downpour.

Dalby were put in to bat and had 14 on the board before the loss of Alistair Fell (7).

But Rob Herrick (20) and Ben Wass (63) put together a great stand. Herrick went in the eighth over with 36 on the board, but Wass was joined by David Greaves (33) and Dalby clocked up the runs, posting 148-6 in their 20 overs.

Hucknall’s innings started badly with opener Regan Neale going for a duck.

Only Burton (32) and Whyley (22) put up any resistance to Dalby’s bowlers and they finished on 97-9 with 14 year old Ben Carr taking a wicket with the final ball of the match.

Joe Gant (3 for 20), Will Gent (3 for 5) and Ben Carr (2 for 14) shared the wickets around.
