South Notts Cricket League: Belvoir serve up thrilling high-scoring draw

Olly Clayfield (retired hurt 69) and Lewis Dann (35) provided a solid start of 82 elegant runs, before Greg Oldfield (102 not out) added a century of pure enjoyment for the spectators.

Four of his six sixes peppered the mid-wicket boundary, while he manufactured 28 singles to cleverly rotate the strike with Clayfield.

Tom Neville’s 28 continued to hurry the score along before he was stumped with eight overs to go.

Jake Fisher then ambled to 13 from his first 10 deliveries before crashing 32 from the next 14, including two magnificent straight sixes as Belvoir posed an imposing 308-2.

Dan Andrew (39) and David Barr (37) served up a punchy first wicket stand of 80, but with the asking rate increasing, Tim Young (104) scored at more than seven-per-over against the nagging bowling of Oldfield and Andy Dann.

With 16 overs left, 133 were still required as Belvoir bowler Phil Irvine went on the attack.

Wollaton debutant Hamish Llewelyn (43) had added 106 with Young for the third wicket when he became Irvine’s first victim to an excellent catch from Oldfield.

Another corker of a catch by Clayfield saw the end of Young, and Nicky Kirkwood (34) took over as the main run-getter.

Irvine took a fine running catch in the deep off his brother Matt (2 for 32) before another brilliant Oldfield catch did for Kirkwood.

But still Wollaton would not lie down. James Cox (16) required yet another outstanding catch, from captain Lewis Dann, to see him off.

With three balls left and nine runs needed, Callum Brown swiped a four, but Irvine held his nerve to restrict the visitors to two singles to bag a winning draw and 18 points.
