Everards County League: Melton Mowbray roar back to extend lead

Melton Mowbray extended their lead at the top of Division Four East with a dramatic win at Houghton and Thurnby Seconds on Saturday.

The leaders seemed to be heading for only their second defeat of the season when they were put into bat and bowled out for just 115 in 38 overs.

But the visitors came roaring back, bowling out Houghton for 100 with the final ball of the 45th over to secure an unlikely maximum 30-point haul.

Second-placed Market Overton picked up 25 points in their six-wicket win over Bitteswell, extending Melton’s lead at the top to a commanding 42 points.

They are also 101 points ahead of third-placed Illston Abbey with nine wins from 11 matches, and barring a disastrous second half of the season, their promotion destiny is well in their hands.
