A special social and support group is to be set up in Melton for people who served in the armed forces.

The first meeting of the Veterans’ Breakfast Club is at the Harboro Hotel on Saturday December 3.

The session, which will be from 10am to 12 noon, will be followed up by a second one on Saturday January 7 at the same venue.

The group is the brainchild of Melton borough councillors Pam Posnett and Simon Lumley.

Mrs Posnett said: “When people think of veterans they tend to think of people from World War Two but you are a veteran if you have only spent one day in the armed forces.

“Today there are a number of young people who leave the armed forces and have difficulty adjusting to life back in civvy street.

“We are a town that has a long history of having armed forces personnel here so we are hoping that we can get a group together and build a group that can help and support each other. We are suggesting we meet on the 1st Saturday of every month.”

Breakfast will cost £5 with tea and coffee for those who attend.
