New community project launched in Melton

Have your say

An innovative new workshop is to be launched in Melton aiming to bring together individuals and organisations to work, learn and share ideas and resources.

Melton Space is a community initiative which will be run entirely run by volunteers, with support from Melton Council, local businesses and other interested parties.

A venue is being sought in the town to house the project, which will be available for people of all ages and backgrounds, with tools and facilities for various activities, a kitchen and space for holding workshops and short courses.

Lots of interest has already been shown in the venture.

Activities suggested so far include woodwork, metalwork, laser cutting, 3D printing, sewing, overlocking, knitting, computing and IT coding.

Ideas have also been forward for special ‘fix it days’ for bicycles, upholstery and electronics.

Prospective members would also like to share resources for things like arts and crafts and musical instruments.

A spokesperson said: “Melton Space is a non-profit community organisation run by volunteers and we need the residents of Melton and the business community to help build it into a great shared community resource.”
