Man trapped in wreckage after cars in collision on the A46 near Melton

A man was trapped in the wreckage when two cars were in collision on the A46 near Melton on Monday evening.

Firefighters from Leicester and Birstall attended the incident, which was on the south-bound carriageway between Seagrave crossroads and Ratcliffe on the Wreake.

The crews were alerted at 6.24pm with reports of the man being trapped.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two cars were involved in a road traffic collision.

“A male casualty self-extricated himself from a vehicle with assistance from fire service personnel.

“He was escorted on foot to a nearby place of safety so he could await the arrival of the East Midlands Ambulance Service.”
