Melton catering students serve up winning menu for cancer cause

A group of food loving youngsters in Melton rustled up some tasty dishes to raise funds for a Leicestershire cancer charity.

Hospitality and catering students at Brooksby Melton College’s Rural Catering Centre cooked and served the winning menu of Leicestershire company director David Lynes, who won episode nine of Channel 4’s ‘Come Dine With Me’ TV programme.

The meal comprised of seared scallops, beef en croute and sticky toffee pudding.

David was the guest of honour at the special ‘Come Dine With Dave’ evening which raised £598 for GEMS Charity.

He said: “GEMS Charity is a very special charity that does amazing work to raise funds for the Leicester Royal Infirmary Oncology unit.

“The students at the college did a wonderful job in re-creating my dishes and serving them with more finesse than I did.”

GEMS Charity was founded in June 2012, by Andy and Sally Anderson of Kibworth after they had accompanied four close friends on a weekly basis to the Osbourne Chemotherapy Suite at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The aim of the charity is to help patients and their supporters who visit the Oncology Unit in the Osborne Building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) more comfortable.
