Four people were treated in hospital following a collision involving two cars at Thurmaston.

One of the casualties was trapped and had to be freed from the wreckage in the incident, on the Asda roundabout on Barkythorpe Road, on Saturday evening.

Five ambulances were requested and fire crews from the Birstall station and the city’s Eastern station were deployed to the scene, shortly after 7pm.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said it was called out to the collision by Leicestershire police.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Upon arrival, the incident was confirmed as a road traffic collision involving two vehicles and one person was trapped.

“Three casualties with minor injuries were assessed by East Midlands Ambulance Service and conveyed to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

“A fourth casualty was extricated from their vehicle by the fire service and conveyed to Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, by Ambulance.”

Both the north and southbound carriageways were closed while emergency services dealt with the collision and its aftermath.
