Gifts from the organisers of the Stathern Duathlon and the Friends of the School and donations from individual parents have allowed the school to buy new games equipment and teamwear.

The school joined forces with independent retailer Melton Sports, of King Street, to source and design new football, netball, rugby and athletics kits as well as some microfleeces and rain jackets.

Sarah Minnaar, PE co-ordinator, said: “We see sport as an integral part of our ethos at Stathern School. We enter tournaments both in the Vale of Belvoir and Melton and also use outside coaches Neil Atkins and Claire Rozentals to help enrich our PE curriculum offer.

“Sport helps develop teamwork, skills and confidence. The children look very smart in the new kits and feel they can do their very best. They are proud to represent the school.”

Headteacher Matthew Lee added: “We are very grateful to Stathern Duathlon, the Friends of the School and parents for making this happen and are delighted to have been able to support a local business, too. It has been a real community effort.”
