Town's music and car event attracts big crowds despite poor evening weather

The free event which also included a small collection of vintage and classic cars featured a full programme of music from noon until 10pm.

It was launched by Nigel Keep of 54a King Street Coffee Shop and was supported by the Melton BID Company to help revitalise the town’s evening economy.

Despite the wet weather for a large part of the evening crowds were not put off and hundreds attended.

Mr Keep said: “Everyone really enjoyed the event and the wet weather from about 6 o’clock onwards failed to dampen anyone’s mood.

“From 12-1pm Ali Lee performed nostalgic songs from the 40s and 50s, then we had a Caribbean steel drum performance from Octavia, which was aired on BBC Radio Leicester, Baker’s Treat played jazz and folk music, and there were performances from dance troop Want2Dance, choir Cappella and Dan Hadfield.”

The event was compered by 103 The Eye presenter Mark Frisby and there was also a vintage double decker bus bar, hog roast and other caterers.
