Last year Melton Council rejected an application submitted by The Caistor Castle Trust for the Lion Brickworks site, off Eastwell Road.

The authority said it considered, on the balance of probabilities, the evidence submitted by the applicants failed to demonstrate that the development comprising the use of the land as a recreational caravan site, approved under planning permission granted in 1972, lawfully commenced within the terms of the planning permission.

Scalford Parish Council also opposed the application, claiming nothing had changed at the site since 2014.

The Caistor Castle Trust lodged an appeal in a bid to overturn Melton Council’s decision.

A public inquiry will be held at Phoenix House on Nottingham Road on Tuesday, June 21, starting 10am.
