Hundreds of children and families attend Breaking Boundaries events in Melton with more to come

The events, which have been held in Melton and the Vale of Belvoir for a number of years, give families and young people the opportunity to interact with police and council officials in a relaxed environment while enjoying a range of fun activities including kwik cricket, football, fair stalls, games and lots more.

Two of the events have already been held at the West Avenue green and Hartopp Road green in Melton, each attracting over 100 children and families.

Packed lunches were also provided for children, with food kindly provided by businesses including Samworth Brothers, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Mars.

Organisations supporting the scheme include Leicestershire Police, Melton Council, the Melton Sport and Health Alliance and Leicestershire County Council.

The next two ‘Breaking Boundaries’ events are set be held at Bottesford’s Belvoir High School on August 22 and Asfordby village green on August 24, 10am to 3pm.

Pc Chris Perry, dedicated neighbourhood officer for Melton town south, said: “The events are about breaking down boundaries that sometimes exist between agencies and communities.

“It’s an opportunity to show there’s another side to the police and that we’re not just all about enforcement. “People do come up to us and talk to us at these events about what is happening in their community.”

A family fun day organised by the Tenants Forum Executive Committee (TFEC) will be taking place at Melton’s Play Close Park on August 18, 10am to 3pm.

Similar to the ‘Breaking Boundaries’ events, there will be a range of family activities and attractions and the general public and tenants will be able to get advice on various issues.
