A Vale of Belvoir cafe that has just re-opened after the lockdown closure has come up with a new attraction for dog owners.

Cafe Allez, set in the car park at the foot of Belvoir Castle, has now placed a leading brand of ice cream for dogs, called Waggy Doggy, among its features.

Owners Mark Trevarthen and Claire Fretwell say they had to fight to secure the rights to offer the ice cream.

Mr Trevarthen said: “Waggy Doggy are very selective about their stockists and we had to lobby them for some time before securing the rights to range it.

“But as soon as the representative from Waggy Doggy came to see us with our first delivery, he looked around and said it was definitely the right location for the brand.

He added: “It means that we the only location in the Midlands where dog lovers can treat their dogs to the nation’s leading brand of Doggy Ice Cream, Waggy Doggy.”

He said: “The icecream people eat isn’t always good for a dog’s more sensitive stomach, plus the sugar content can make it too calorific for them.
