Ratcliffe College pupil Sofia, 7, strikes winning note in musical contest

A talented year three pupil at Ratcliffe College has received top recognition at the Leicester Competitive Festival of Music and Dramatic Art.

Musician Sofia Demetraides (7) was awarded a First Award in all three classes she was entered in including two piano and one violin.

This was the first time Sofia had entered the competition at Leicester’s Beauchamp College. She performed Variations in D Major by Niccolo Paganini.

She said: “I was really pleased to win as I practise every day. For my violin piece, I was against a boy who was 13 and a girl who was 16.”

The festival showcased some of the best junior and adult talent in the county including, vocalists, actors and musicians.

Daniel Jones, assistant director of music at Ratcliffe College, said: “Sofia is an outstanding musician of whom we are very proud. 

“She shows dedication and musicality well beyond her years and thoroughly deserves these awards. She is a true star.”
