A series of classes that provide a lifeline for people who experience hearing loss are being offered in Melton.

‘Help to Hear’ Better Lipreading Groups are set up in Leicestershire by The Leslie Edwards Trust, in conjunction with Leicestershire County Council who fund free lipreading classes in Melton, Coalville and Market Harborough.

Lipreading tutor, Jane Futcher said: “Some people may think that lipreading is a strange and unnecessary skill to learn but people use some lipreading without thinking about it as we go about our day to day lives.

“As we get older and especially for many people who have hearing loss, it becomes more difficult to have a comfortable conversation. Being able to lipread can make a big difference.”

The course is being offered to those who have a hearing loss and who are aged 65 or over. It will also look at ways of coping with some of the more common challenges for people with deafness.

Sessions will run at the Age UK centre, Gloucester House (2-4pm). They will last for six weeks with the first session starting on Wednesday. For more details call Jane on 07989 146682 or email
