School holiday fun returns to Melton's museum for kids

Melton Museum's programme of summer activities for children of all ages returns.

Each week throughout the school holidays there will be a different theme with things to make and trails around the gallery.

It starts with a special Vikings Day on Thursday (10am to 4.30pm) as part of the Festival of Archaeology. Activities include Viking beard making, a trail around the gallery, making brooches and information on Viking words and place names.

From July 23 to 29 the theme is Victorious Vikings, which includes Viking beard making, a trail around the gallery, making longboats out of paper and displays of Viking objects and costumes.

From July 26 to 30 the theme is Desert Island Crafts, this entails putting different coloured sand into bottles, a trail around the gallery and raft making out of corks.

From August 2 to 6 the theme is Jungle Mayhem, this includes clay modelling, a trail around the gallery and animal mask making.

Knights of the Round Table is the theme from August 9 to 13, this includes sword, shield and helmet making as well as a trail around the gallery.

The theme from August 16 to 20 is Birds of Prey, where children can make bird gliders and masks. There will also be a trail around the gallery.

From August 23 to 27 the theme is Foody Fun, this entails making and decorating fridge magnets and a trail around the gallery.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and some charges may apply.
