Melton Gig Guide: August 11 to 17 - Melton Times

Headlining comedians are Dan Mitchell, Hannah Silvester, Theresa Farlow, Colin Harris and Lou Chawner. The shenanigans will be glued together by host Jon Pearson.

Dan Mitchell is a high energy, ursine, slightly surreal Welshman. He has supported Ross Noble on tour, and opened for Eddie Izzard in the Edinburgh festival theatre.

Hannah Silvester combines frank and honest stand-up comedy with the occasional funny song. Her breakthrough moment came when she won the 2014 Breakthrough Act Award at the Midlands Comedy Awards.

Theresa ‘Trees’ Farlow’ is a relative newcomer to the world of standup comedy. She presents a unique and self-deprecating take on life. Her gags are influeneced by years of academia, with a gastric band, laser eye surgery, rampant cats and her personal struggles with ADHD.

Colin Harris has returned to stand up after an eight year lay-off. He is a brummie born comedian who has made a name for himself as an act and extremely good MC.

Lou Chawner’s black country accent and easy persona disguise make him a killer gag writer. He has weaving stories mixed with smart, dark and crazy one liners.

Friday sees Jonas perform at the Noels Arms. They’re a duo from Leicester consisting of acoustic guitars, drums and vocals.

The Carington Arms at Ashby Folville is the venue to see Calder McLaughlin on Friday. His songs all have compelling anthemic quality to them.

The Genny B is hosting Kieran Fowkes on Friday. He will play a two hour mix set of rock, soul and current songs.

Katmandu, a four piece rock/pop covers band are in town at the Genny B, on Saturday, while the Silver Threetles play at the Noels Arms.

The former will play songs from A to Zee! Adele to Zeppelin, whereas the latter are a Beatles tribute act.

Heidi Deacon will gig at The Grapes on Saturday. She will deliver classic mowtown and soul hits to keep your toes firmly on the dancefloor.

Head on down to the Geese and Fountain at Croxton Kerrial, on Sunday, for acoustic music night. Bring a song, an instrument, your voice or just your ears. All welcome to play or just listen.

Tuesday sees Melton Folk Club gather in the Tiger Room at The Crown, a new venture for people of all ages and hosted by Adrian Kerr.

On Sunday, there is another open mic night scheduled at The Three Crowns - Steamin’ Billy, in Oakham, on Wednesday. It will be hosted by Simon Booth.
