This year there were 56 real ales, 22 ciders and four perrys on offer at the popular event, held at Melton Cattle Market on Friday and Saturday, as well as food, live music and entertainment.

Revellers were entertained by Rainer and Real Monsters on Friday and by morris men, Irish dancers, Govannen, Baron Lewis and the Howard Rose Band on Saturday. Howard also opened the festival at the exclusive sponsors only night on Thursday.

Kevin Ross, chairman of the Melton Mowbray Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Beer Festival Committee, said: “The attendance was excellent and the range of beers we had was definitely the best we’ve had for a long time.

“Almost 85 per cent of the beers sold, all of the cider went by 9pm on Saturday and 28 casks were virtually empty.

“The festival is a real community affair that brings people together and there was a great atmosphere, with both days being busy. I was pleased with how it went and would like to thank the 30-odd sponsors who sponsored barrels.”
