Fascinating heritage events to be held in Bottesford as part of Festvial of Archaeology

The annual festival gives people the opportunity to learn about local heritage and is organised by the Council for British Archaeology.

On Wednesday, July 27 there will be a talk entitled ‘Metal-Detecting in Leicestershire,’ by Dr Phil Harding, at Bottesford Community Library, from 7pm to 9.30pm.

Dr Phil has been detecting in Leicestershire and beyond for the past 25 years and has documented more than 2,600 items on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database.

On Thursday, July 28 there will be a presentation entitled ‘The Caves of Nottingham,’ described by Julia Walker, at Bottesford Community Library, from 7pm to 9.30pm.

Visitors are encouraged to attend to hear more about the mysterious subterranean world beneath our feet.

On Friday, July 29 a historical tour of St Mary the Virgin Church has been organised, led by the Bottesford Heritage Group, from 2pm to 4pm.

Visitors should meet at the church porch and will take a tour of ‘The Lady of the Vale.’ There will be an opportunity to see a manticore, a Shakespearean earl and countess, and the ‘witches tomb.’

Each event has a £3 entry fee on the door. Under 18s are free.
