Thorpe Arnold Seconds continued their good form with an excellent team performance against a much-improved Illston Abbey.
On winning the toss, the visitors were invited to bat and Thorpe’s attack soon built the pressure with some excellent line and length bowling.
All the bowlers deserved credit with the pick being Barry Lecoyte (3 for 29) on his return from a long busman’s holiday.
He bowled the dangerous opener for 34 with his first ball as Illston were restricted to 167-9.
Thorpe made a steady start to their chase, but lost their first wicket in the ninth over for 31.
Simon Jones again batted superbly, but at 60-3 from 18 overs, the game remained in the balance.
Tim Hirst then joined Jones and the pair batted sensibly to reach 127 off 36 overs until the latter was out for 75.
Hirst was out soon after for 40, and it was left to Andy Sibun, with a quick 22 not out, and Chris Moule to hit the winning runs to steer the visitors home in the 44th over.
