Thorpe Arnold arrived at Gorse Lane on Sunday and were glad to see play was possible after the previous weekend’s washout.
The afternoon began well for the visitors when Exton won the toss and decided to put Grantham Town in to bat.
It got even better when Exton snicked Everett off cheaply to Waldron at slip for 0 and cleaned bowled Benks for 1.
Moule toiled away at the other end before the spin attack was introduced and the damage began.
Durno (8-3-20-4) and Foldys (7-1-11-3) were the pick of the bowling, but Moule finished the Grantham innings off to set Thorpe just 97 to win.
Hirst was sent out to make use of his pinch-hitting skills but the tactic didn’t go well.
Credit must go to young Howarth whose knock of 31 stabilised the innings as I. Perry, L. Perry and Jones fell for tidy scores.
Waldron and Marsh saw the visitors to the target as Thorpe recorded their first win of the season. A good, fair game played in the right spirit.
