As the nation is gripped by Ashes fever, Thorpe Arnold Cricket Club members are making final preparations for the visit of soem special Australian guests.
Pinjarra CC’s touring side who will be at the club next Thursday (July 23) to celebrate Thorpe’s President’s Day, just a few days after the conclusion of the second Test at Lord’s.
The 29-strong group are on a month-long tour of the UK, playing teams in Ireland (Knockharley CC), Scotland (Forties CC) and England (Bibury CC, Thorpe Arnold CC and Reading CC) before moving on to Paris and Amsterdam.
Pinjarra CC is one of the oldest clubs in Western Australia, founded in 1874, and is situated about 90 minutes south of the state capital Perth.
Thorpe’s connection with their tour is through Mark Hennessy who played at the club back in 1996 as part of the South Western Australia Cricket Association Under 21 Colts side.
Among the visitors will be former Australian vice-captain and coach Geoff Marsh (pictured left in his playing heyday with international team-mates Allan Border and David Boon) and former England cricketer Jack Birkenshaw as guests of Thorpe Arnold club president Nigel Lane.
The 90-over match will start at 2pm, and all spectators are welcome.
