Syston RFC up to second after Northampton win

Syston RFC continued their fine start to the season with a convincing away win on Saturday.

The First XV went to Northampton Old Scouts and swept to a fine win 43-5 victory, and but for the high winds, could have returned with a much higher score.

The bonus-point win lifted them to second in Midlands One East, just three points behind leaders Bedford Athletic as they look to bounce back to the top flight following relegation.

On Saturday, they entertain fifth-placed Old Northamptonians (kick-off 3pm).

It was a great weekend overall for the club with the Second and Third teams putting in fine displays to beat Newbold on Avon and Loughborough respectively.

* A quartet of Syston RFC Under 18 players have been called up by their county for the opening game of the season this weekend.

Harry Bridge, Matthew Steward, Morgan Galloway and Ben Freer will line up for Leicestershire U18s for the first round of the Super Sunday games against East Midlands U18 at Hinckley RFC. Kick-off is at 10.30am.
